Claire Watkins reports:

Race 1: To say we went in to this not exactly confident would be an understatement, but despite my interpreting Anton's "Good start, Clare" as "stop" and then later getting (too) closely acquainted with the outside of First Post Corner, we somehow ended up winning by 5s. It was the best row we've had together so far, and we didn't fall in, so I'm pretty pleased with it!

Quarter Final: After a bit of a challenge getting the boat off the roof of the van, we headed down to the start in a fierce headwind/crosswind. Just as we lined up to race, it swung round so that we could race into it... The start was ok again, we had a bit of a wobble by the outflow but recovered. They gained on us all the way, and (although we had a better line around First Post today) made a big move in the gut. We were told by the marshall to move to the outside of Grassy, so they had the inside of the corner and got past us. Apparently we held them for a good bit of Plough Reach, but coming into the Reach and the wind, our inexperience and tiredness started to tell and we got pretty scrappy. We pushed right through to the finish just before the Railway Bridge. I think we did the best we could have done in the the conditions today, and losing to such a good crew is nothing to be ashamed of! Thanks to Dave H for bank-steering us today.
